[LUNA] Putting my new FreeBSD 9.3 desktop online ....

.... & I bumped into a bit of a snag .... I physically swapped the old &
new boxen this A.M. (limited space) & carried the old back into the shop
room. I hooked everything up & booted the new one. Boot went fine, xdm
login screen came up, & I logged in. It went black for about 5 sec.,
then returned to the login screen :-( .... I did this several times
before deciding to shell in & look around. I observe the following:

The X server isn't running. although xdm is, which I find peculiar. I
notice that when hal was installed, is was misconfigured, which I didn't
fix. However, I have rebooted 3 times since, & only had problems the
last time (this A.M.). I am puzzled :-/ .... any clues appreciated ....
