I frequently check out /r/linux and /r/programming. Those have links in the sidebar for other related subreddits. 

Since you mentioned /r/HuntsvilleAlabama, I don't find /r/alabama very interesting, but YMMV. /r/jokes makes for a nice distraction. 

Like someone else said, what are your interests?
