[LUNA] Cygwin, a Redhat project

I have installed Cygwin on my laptops. Since it is imposing POSIX
on top of Windows 7 Ultimate, there are a few rough edges. Gcc 4.4.2 is
installed. GNU Pascal Compiler (built for gcc 4.3.3) had to be
installed in the 32-bit version for it to work. The developers hope to
get the 64-bit version working this summer, perhaps.

I got an introductory book on make to compile stuff a little more
conveniently than trying to do everything on the command line. Well, I
also have emacs and Code:blocks and Mousepad installed. I'm somewhat
like the carpenter who can't have too many hammers!

I try to run an Xwindow from the consode window, but it does not
always 'take.' I have to shut the window down and re run it with
'startx &' to get everything started just right. I have been looking at
xfce and lxde to run the xwindow.

Anyway there are a whole number of tips or things to do that would
make the software run better.

        Sincerely,
        (Mr.) Gayle Lee Fairless
