Depending on your distribution, you may have to place it into a config file: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/<interface name>-cfg or something similar for many distributions. Place an entry into the file that says DNS1=8.8.8.8 (Google) and DNS2=4.2.2.2 (GTEI) or use the OpenDNS project servers of you don't like Google. Go to OpenDNS.org for more information.
