I'm on FreeBSD 9.3R:

[root at kabini1, /etc, 8:49:18am] 391 % uname -a
FreeBSD kabini1.local 9.3-RELEASE-p24 FreeBSD 9.3-RELEASE-p24 #0: Sat
Aug 22 01:54:44 UTC 2015
root at amd64-builder.daemonology.net:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC amd64
[root at kabini1, /etc, 8:49:21am] 392 %

Place an entry into the file that says DNS1=8.8.8.8 (Google) and DNS2=4.2.2.2 (GTEI) or use the OpenDNS project servers of you don't like Google. Go to OpenDNS.org for more information.
