[LUNA] upgrade from etch Debian GNU/Linux to current version

I have etch Debian GNU/Linux on a machine running a Pentium 4 Prescott on an Asus motherboard P4P800e Deluxe.  It dual boots into Windows XP.  How do I upgrade etch to the current version?  I’m not sure if I want to upgrade Windows, especially not to Windows 10 on the box.
