[LUNA] Repair Boot

I have tried to click the try Ubuntu Mate button that will boot the LiveCD.  However, during the boot it hangs just like the install.  In the BIOS I have the boot set to Legacy and not UEFI.  When the system boots I do see a message that states:
tpm_crb MSFT0101:00: [Firmware Bug]: ACPI region does not cover the entire command/response buffer.
Any idea about this?

So you are able to boot into a "LiveCD" or something similar and them mount the drive that should be booting the system?

Boot repairs generally fix the boot sector on an MBR-partitioned disk to ensure that the boot information in that unique block/sector point to the right partition for booting. If you are using a non-MBR disk (most disks are now partitioned for as EFS, UEFS or GPT to remove the 4-partition limit and allow for more extensive boot options), then it won't hurt, it just won't do anything.  There are some boot repair disks that will actually recognize the format and update the information from the backup table on the newer partition schemes, so, either way, give it a try; you've got nothing to lose.

While you have the system booted up on a LiveCD, make sure that you run all of the disk checks that you can run, starting with fsck and running parted or whatever tool you like for checking partition information. If you can see the information on the disk, it's likely not a hardware issue. And, while you are in there, you should probably copy off any information on there that you might not be able to recover from a backup.

Well I need some help.  I posted about my laptop.  I had Ubuntu Mate 16.04 installed.  I was out of town and the power went out.  I shut my laptop down and closed the screen.  I think I may have closed it before the shutdown was complete.  Anyway when the power came back on I turned on the computer and it would not boot.  I get the Alienware BIOS screen then I get a screen with a blinking cursor.  I have been trying to install Ubuntu Mate 18.04, but no matter what I do, the install will hang.  I have made two bootable USB drives and tried a DVD image.  The DVD image did not get as far as the USB drives.
I found a utility called Boot-Repair-Disk.  Just wondering if this actually works or if anyone has heard of this utility.  Anyway, if you have any suggestions they are appreciated.  I have tried putting acpi=off and nomodeset on the lines that start with linux in the grub.conf file.  My computer is an Alienware 15 R3.
    Thanks,Michael
