[LUNA] Printing to Brother QL-710W label printer with Linux

I had a different little Brother printer set up in Ubuntu before after a
little bit of difficulty. I was only ever able to get it to work with the
official Brother driver:

after updating the firmware from a Windows computer:

I've been trying to get this Brother label printer to print using linux for
some time now with very little success.  There is CUPS printer drivers for
the thing, and installing them makes the printer show up, but printing does
nothing.

Anyone have any experience debugging CUPS printer issues?  What's some
things I can try?  Is there log files I can look at to give me a clue?
