[LUNA] WOW Cable Modem

My knowledge on cable modems is out of date,seeing what my Huntsville LUNA
friends say:)

Many years ago, I signed up for WowWay (then Knology).  I have a DOCSIS 2.0
modem inside, and something (I don't know what) that converts to analog
telephone line in the outside box.

Now, I am upgrading to a new modem and I am seeing references to "MTA"
modem.  What is that?  If I am keeping telephone service through WowWay, do
I need it?

My guess is NO since the box outside does the conversion.
