We met at the mall on University.
We met at the main library.
We met at our offices, Asteria Solutions Group.
We had an install fest at Sister Gooch's.

If I ever resurrect my currently dead box (would love some help figuring that one out), I could tell you exactly where we met and when as I have a mail archive going back to at least 1996 or 1997.
We've previously met at:
* Mr. Gatti's (sp? pizza place on University across from the present Aldi's)
* Air2LAN (ISP downtown near courthouse)
* Office at Perimeter Pkwy (MITRE maybe?)
* Former offices of Linux Support Services (later becoming Digium)
* Intergraph
I think there may have been one or two others over the years, but the height of meetings or "install fests" was 1996-2000.
Personally, I think I would hate or feel embarrassed to attend one of these today as my installation skills have devolved down to "Staff, go install this and get it done by tomorrow."

Not an idea, but I do support the idea of meeting up, and I like
making it open for minors (and others who prefer a non-alcoholic
venue).
I think makers local has a meeting room, so that might be a good
place for a meet-up, or one of the pizza places. I think we met at Big
Ed's once, or was that hsv.general?
If there is a desire to gain interest, someone demo-ing the new
SteamOS might be a good thing (I don't game, so I shouldn't
volunteer).
[personal opinion (not politics) it kind of bugs be that some people
(not this list) think that available alcohol is a requirement for any
gathering, and won't show up if if isn't.]

Great post. Thanks, Paul!
That post mentioned that we used to occasionally have a meet-up. I do
remember having a few of those. At one point, there was a move to get
an
open source guru to come speak (for a price). I think the last
remnants of
the old group started visiting the local Maker’s group:
http://256.makerslocal.org
I think we should meet somewhere in 2014, just to get to know the
faces in
the crowd. I would recommend a tapping at a local brewery, but, as I
recall, we occasionally get minors (and maybe a few miners, too) in
the
group and I wouldn’t want to alienate anyone.
Ideas?

Just to let y'all know, there's a post on reddit about the list. I
think
it's being added to the Rocket City Wiki as well.

So I was at church the other day and heard that the

site was run on an old version of Linux, slackware even. Also
heard
they used Pico to edit the source code.
:) Sorry - I couldn't resist (and I'm making all of the above up
-
for spice I threw in politics and linux politics).

Though we¹d like to keep it focused, I am sure that there will
be
off-topic posts, occasionally.
Since none of us can escape MS Windows, I am sure there will be
posts
concerning that.
Since Linux was born from the loins of UNIX, I am sure that
UNIX-related
posts will arrive.
My only hope is that we steer clear of politics, religion and
current
events, except as they may affect Linux and computing.

I was hoping LUNA would get started back up. Hello!
I was thinking of letting the folks on
http://reddit.com/r/HuntsvilleAlabama know about LUNA starting
up.
Would
there be any objections to that?
Will this still be a "general discussion" list, or more
focused?
